Kate Lindsey Mezzo Soprano

Mezzo Soprano Kate Lindsey is a recent graduate of the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Program, and she is quickly becoming one of the most sought after mezzos of her generation.

This season Kate returns to the Metropolitan Opera to sing Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Stephano in Romeo et Juliette, and the Musician in Manon Lescaut. She also makes her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the baton of James Levine singing the world premiere of John Harbison's Symphony No. 5 along with the role of Ascanius in Berlioz's Les Troyens.

Past engagements include Cherubino with Boston Lyric Opera; Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Stephano in Romeo and Juliet, and Mercedes in Carmen at the Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Lazuli in Chabrier's comic opera L'Etoile and Angelina in La Cenerentola with Wolf Trap Opera. Recent roles at the Metropolitan Opera include Second Lady in the new English version of The Magic Flute, Tebaldo in Don Carlo, and Siebel in Faust. Last season Kate also performed Haydn's Harmoniemesse with the Cleveland Orchestra, and she made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Ensemble conducted by James Levine.

A native of Richmond, Virginia, Kate holds a Bachelor of Music Degree with Distinction from Indiana University. Her many awards include: a 2007 Richard F. Gold Career Grant, the 2007 George London Grand Prize Award in memory of Lloyd Rigler, the 2007 Lincoln Center Martin E. Segal Award, a 2006 Sullivan Foundation Grant, first prize in the 2005 Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Competition, major winner in the 2004 Opera Index Competition, regional finalist in the 2004 Metropoltan Opera National Council Auditions, and first place winner in the 2004 Student Division of the Palm Beach Opera Competition.
